One of the ultimate comfort foods. Toasted, buttery bread and lots of melty cheese? Yum. And wicked easy. Perfect to make when you don’t feel like “really” cooking.
Ingredients:
- 2 pieces of bread
- a slice or two of cheese
- butter
Cook it!
Melt a pat of butter in a pan over medium heat.
You have two options, here.
- You can assemble the sandwich and put the whole thing in the pan, toast one side, melt a little more butter, and then flip it to toast the other side.
- You can put both pieces of bread in the pan and lay cheese on top for simultaneous toasting, smushing both pieces together post-toast to make a sandwich.
Try some variations on the classic. Some of my favorite ways to kick up a grilled cheese is to add bacon, or ham, or a tomato slice, or some chopped scallion.
